Message from the President

Q4 President’s Message:

YOUR BOARD AT WORK – Here’s what’s happening with the CVHRMA

Welcome to the Central Valley HR Management Association! I’m Nicki Tyler, President of the CVHRMA. Q3 was extremely busy for your Board of Directors. We have been planning the ultimate Conference for Fall, budgeting for 2017, ramping up the election process, and securing programming for next year! We have brought back some powerful speakers this summer and continue to provide tactical solutions for the HR community of the Central Valley. This summer proved to be one of our “hottest” ones yet! And to start off Q4, its Election season for us all! As I round off my 3rd year as your President I want to thank you for your support, and attendance to our group. It has been my honor and privilege to serve our group of over 250 Members. Don’t worry, I won’t totally be gone yet, but I am excited to share that your new 2017 President, Dawn Tacker, is already transitioning well – and ready to blow you away with some great stuff for next year. Stay Tuned!

What did you do Last Summer?

Sexual Harassment proves to be a HOT TOPIC – Huge Thank you to returning speaker Sandy Reed, SPHR, and owner of EPOCH Resources. She drew in a crowd of nearly 100 to provide certified compliance training, and awareness to our group this summer. CVHRMA plans to conduct this each and every year, so keep us in mind when you promote or hire new managers and supervisors. We can be a part of that onboarding. John Decoteau our Regional Director for SHRM came and spoke to us about Flexibility in the Workplace, a concept not widely accepted in the Valley yet, so we are hoping to continue this educational series next year, as it is becoming one of the “#1 Retention Tools” according the Business Journal. Martha Hernandez, Director of Talent Acquisition at Save Mart hit home deep with her talk about Unbiased Hiring, sharing how our demographics are shifting and how we need to be in touch with our local market going into the next decade. Email info@54.203.254.253 for HRCI/SHRM-PDU credits or program outlines for your training records.

What’s New?

Board of Directors – Elections! Starting Oct 19th

  • President Elect (4-year term)
  • VP of Communications (2-year term)
  • VP of Membership

Conference – YOUR Ticket to HR Compliance 2016 has been a year of comply comply comply! (I think it’s like that every year) but just when you think you’ve heard it all California drops more surprises. To the HR community, we see it as “job security”! Attend this 1-day conference for only $169.00 – and get a Legal/Compliance Update, Performance Management Strategies, Retention Strategies, & Workplace Investigations! All the stuff you need to set up for a successful 2017.

Pinnacle Award Submission – Veteran Job Fair 2016. For those of you who don’t know what a Pinnacle Award is, I wanted to share with you its significance and why it’s so prestigious. SHRM National awards 10 chapters across the county (and there are over 300 chapters) for an award to a chapter that provides the greatest movement, education, support, and innovation to the HR Community they serve. Because of the efforts of Jowanda Collins, our VP of Workforce Readiness, we qualified to submit for the recognition, which not only would get our chapter National Recognition, but also a scholarship of over $5,000 that we can use to further support the HR certification of our members, and students that are in our group.  So in a nutshell, CVHRMA is AWESOME and you should be excited!

We got a Silver Medal! In the post-spirit of the Olympics I wanted to brag about some recent awards your CVHRMA chapter won. Shout out to the efforts of our Board of Directors for securing a Silver Excel Award which is the highest award we can receive with our chapter size (without becoming a 100% SHRM Membership Chapter). This is for due diligence, accuracy in reports, and accountability to state council efforts to CalSHRM. That’s huge! Also, our Membership Team was awarded the 2015 SHRM Membership Super Star award, for our year over year growth! You should be proud to be a part of such an active group! Like I said, CVHRMA is AWESOME.

Final thoughts.

Yes, while there is only 11 Mondays until Christmas from October 1 – and so forth, I wanted to again tell you that while you have been busy at your desks, “HR’ing, Complying, Adulting, and being all things to all people, your Board of Directors has been hard at work for YOU. As always we welcome feedback, topics for speakers, and want to make sure you feel like this is YOUR chapter for all the support and advice you need to kick butt in your job every day. Hope to see you all at Conference October 19th, and drop me an email anytime. president@54.203.254.253
