Welcome to Our New Legislative Director!
Over the past year, CVHRMA has been working towards rebuilding as we come out of the haze of the pandemic and adjust to the “new normal” of work. We strive to bring you resources and tools that you need to be well equipped to support your team as an HR support team member, or as your company’s HRBP.
As such, we are pleased to announce the newest member of our Board of Directors, Lindsay Walczak! Lindsay has accepted the role as Legislative Director, and is excited to support you, our members, with important topics to maintain compliance in this ever-shifting landscape.
A few words from Lindsay:
Hello CVHRMA Membership!
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Lindsay Walczak. I am an employment law attorney with Berliner Cohen, LLP in Modesto. My employment practice includes representing employers on matters involving wage and hour, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination claims. I have been a member of CVHRMA for almost three years and just recently became the CVHRMA Legislative Director. As the Legislative Director, I will keep you updated on relevant labor and employment law developments.
To that end, questions continue to arise concerning the permissibility of COVID-19 vaccination requirements in the workplace. In a recent Memorandum Opinion, the DOJ concluded that federal law does not prohibit public and private employers from requiring COVID-19 vaccinations that are under emergency use authorization. The Opinion follows earlier guidance issued by the EEOC permitting vaccine requirements in the workplace, subject to reasonable accommodation requirements. The Opinion can be found HERE, and the EEOC guidance can be found HERE.
I look forward to meeting and getting to know you all!
