4th Quarter President’s Message
Hello CVHRMA Members,
It’s that time again, Fall is in the air and the CVHRMA Fall HR Conference is just around the corner. This will be my fourth year involved with planning the Fall Conference. It has become a part of my seasonal traditions. Like you, I look forward to the speakers, receiving the latest information from vendors-and the opportunity to network with colleagues. This year, we have an exciting agenda packed full of expert presenters and can’t miss topics. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at our new venue, the Del Rio Country Club in Modesto. I hope you like the changes we have put in to this year’s conference.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to announce that Sarah Cordova has joined the CVHRMA Board. She will be leading the Emerging Professional initiative locally. Many of you will remember Sarah, as she was one of our most involved student leaders. I had the opportunity to work alongside Sarah on multiple projects. Each time she impressed me with her professionalism and friendly dedication. Sarah is the perfect fit to help other student members make that transition from student to HR professional-while staying engaged with the chapter and our members. I am delighted that she volunteered for this role and was voted into the seat.
Over the coming weeks, the Executive Board will be meeting with other members of our chapter who have indicated an interest in serving on a committee. We are especially focused on recruiting for the committees of workforce readiness, member engagement/event planning, as well as communication and branding. As always, if you or someone you know might be interested in one of these roles, please reach out to a member of the Board. We would be happy to provide more details.
Lastly, in November I will be travelling to Washington D.C. for the SHRM Volunteer Leader’s Summit. I am proud to do so representing our chapter. I am excited to return and share with our chapter the valuable resources and information I obtain. While there, SHRM will be announcing the 2017 Pinnacle Winner. Please join me in rooting for CalSHRM (California State Council of SHRM) who has submitted their advocacy efforts for consideration for this year’s Pinnacle award. If they receive it, it will be a three-peat, three consecutive years of a California Chapter winning a Pinnacle Award!
I look forward to seeing each of you at the Fall HR Conference on Wednesday, October 18th at Del Rio Country Club. Until then, should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out.
With gratitude,
Jowanda M. Collins
