Q2 President’s Message

Greetings HR Leaders of the Central Valley:

Welcome to the Central Valley HR Management Association! I’m Nicki Tyler, President of the CVHRMA. Q1 was extremely busy for your board of directors. We have had record breaking attendance, and a very successful launch of our Networking After-Hours event that started in 2016. We are striving to provide for you brand new content and programming to attend this year. Stay tuned on the web and through email about our events.

If you are visiting us for the first time, CVHRMA is a growing SHRM affiliate professional association based right here in the Stanislaus Country and the greater areas. CVHRMA is the only HR Association in Stanislaus County and the surrounding rural areas. Our group puts on monthly program lunches, and workshops that are designed to educated HR and Business Leaders in the Central Valley about pressing issues and legislature that affect running business. Whether you are in HR capacity for your day job, going to school, or run your own company we can meet your needs.

Here are a few updates and highlights to our membership for 2016 thus far!

Congratulations to our new elected officials:
James Anderson, Esq. VP of Legislative Affairs (2 year term)
Tiffany Waller, VP of Finance (2 year term)
Dawn Tacker, President – Elect (2 year term)
Kathleen Xavier, VP of Technology – (2 year term)
Christine Alger, VP of Communications (2 year term)

Thank you for your service to the following board members:
Kristie Olson, VP of Communications, served 8 years
Elsie Alegre, VP of Membership, served 5 years
Karina Avila, VP of College Relations and Emerging Professionals, served 3 years
If you get the chance or know these individuals please send them a congratulatory note or thank you for service when you can. It’s not a cake walk running the chapter, and these folks have done great things to ensure our chapter thrives! I personally thank each and every one of them.

JOB FAIR SUCCESS – would not have happened without our board member’s heart to serve our community. Jowanda Collins, VP of Workforce Readiness, and Chief Workforce Officer for the Business Alliance came to me 2 years ago with a dream to host this job fair and do it differently. I think her dream came true! Most of you know that we had a tremendous Veteran’s Job Fair this year that we hosted with Representative, Jeff Denham’s office. San Joaquin HR Mgmt Association Co-Sponsored an appreciation reception at CAMP4 the evening prior – and without them it would not have nearly been the success that it was.  We saw over 720+ job seekers and served over 100 Veterans’ alone. I would have to say we have started a great tradition that I hope we continue to flourish in the years to come! Great Job Jowanda!

HAPPY HOUR CONTUNUES – Becky Shorkaii and Lety Duran are at it again planning our Happy Hour Series on May 5th, Cinco de Mayo! We had nearly 50 attendees last time so come join the fun.
$10 per person. Stop by after work to mingle with your peers. Earn extra raffle tickets for bringing a friend, spouse or peer! Evening networking is at 530PM-7:30PM directly following the Board Meetings at Fuzio’s in downtown Modesto.

What’s New?

There are a few things cooking for our members to keep an eye out for:

I would like to thank each and every one of you for being a member and hope that you are taking advantage of your membership by regularly attending our chapter meetings and enjoying the networking opportunities. This year’s board has done a lot of great work to keep CVHRMA moving in the right direction and continues to be a significant professional impact on the human resource profession.

Thank you for your continued support and membership to CVHRMA. I am privileged to be your President, and will do my best to serve you the best way I know how in my last term as President.
